CSA is hosting our first in-person (limited to 50 in attendance, lots of social distancing, and masks) event since RSA next week outside of Washington DC.   It seems that we may be the first to host an in-person event since then.

How are people feeling about getting back to in-person events?  Are you planning on attending any in-person events this year or not and why?     Have you seen other conferences moving forward with their in-person schedule?  What have you seen as far as in-person guidelines?

I personally doesn't have any preference for the conferences, but i do prefer in-person of course.​

Interaction with Associate or futur Prospect can be more visible and will give more control around sharing anything relevant, promotion, or simply reaching any desired members in a short matter of time. Online is great, you can reach user that is often not reachable, but to have a maximised impact in a specific subject, in-person will remain my first choice. The link we build person to person is different than online.

I sure do feel comfortable attending in-person conferences. A little bit of humour here is my system is immune to almost everything...
I think there is serious risk involving in-person events, each of them must be seen individually in terms of necessary security measure, either on Covid-19 related or generally speaking.

I see this case by case, i am sure that each business or company, will have their preferences and measurements on the impact that in-person can occur.

I don't feel comfortable attending any public event until one of these three things happen:

• vaccine
• readily available cure
• significant decrease in infection rates

If that takes until 2021 or longer, it's what it takes.

I would prefer attending in person considering all the protocols of social distancing are in place.  Makes it more worthwhile from the aspect of focus as you're geared towards the event without other distractions.

I definitely expect to avoid in-person events until there is a vaccine. It's not me that I worry about, it is the many people that I come into contact with in my personal life that are immune compromised in some way.

Melisa,

Currently, no way!   As the year goes on, and dependant on 2nd spikes (or lack of them), and the current status of the region you are going to, then European travel for really important meetings / events may be considered.

Currently, given the state of infection (and response) in the US then I would not consider it. So "Sectember" in Seattle is definitely not on my travel agenda, or even putting in a speaking proposal.

Looking at how things may go, and given that RSA have moved 2021 to mid-May, then potentially that may be my first trans-Atlantic trip, but too soon to tell.

It's not the events themselves, as I believe it's viable to put in practices to minimise potential infection/transmission; it's the need to travel, take cabs, stay in hotels, eat in restaurants etc.

Current course and speed, I will likely wait until 2021 before I consider in person events. This is a tough decision because I enjoy meeting folks but I think it is the right decision at this time especially since I live in the current US hot spot for the pandemic!
