The graphic looks nice with a clean flow.
Here is what I would do:
1. Use the graphic that Niels provided as a reference
2. Match the labels and descriptions with CSA terminology for consistency
3. As Niels suggests, show the connection points between the Data and Control plane
4. Use a color code mapping to distinguish core elements like Control/Data planes and related objects
5. Use a color blind schema
I learn visually and originally trained in CAD. Color is super important for me to associate and highlight important/critical concepts. Thus, it is great to have a graphics designer onboard as you have a better idea on how to use color and graphics to convey ideas.
A personal wish would be to have a standard color palette and icon library that this group can use consistently to address specific areas.
