Next Object Management Group meetings

  • 1.  Next Object Management Group meetings

Hello. The next meetings of the Object Management Group (OMG) will be on Sep. 9-12 in Chicago (at the Hyatt in Rosemont, near O'Hare) and Dec. 9-12 in San Francisco (at the Hyatt on the Embarcadero). All sessions (typically a mix of presentations and discussions of what new or revised standards are needed, and how to develop them) can be attended remotely.

As some of you know, the OMG Cloud Working Group maintains a liaison with CSA. We're currently working on two papers: a revision of our Cloud Security paper (last revised at the end of 2017) and a new paper on "AI and the Cloud" (or perhaps "AI in the Cloud" or "Cloud and AI" -- subtle differences to be ironed out). Both papers should be approved for publication by the end of the year.

The Cloud Working Group does not hold extensive in-person sessions during OMG meeting weeks, as most of our work is collaborative "offline" writing, but there are plenty of other groups of potential interest: manufacturing, finance, retail, business modeling, defense, space, robotics... as well as platform-oriented groups such as middleware, analysis and design, systems engineering, systems assurance, and more. And as far as the CWG is concerned, I am always able to convene a birds-of-a-feather session or even a more formal full meeting if enough people are interested. There will also be co-located meetings of the Digital Twin Consortium, which is affiliated with OMG.

So... if your company is a member of OMG, it is easy to register, see www.omg.org/events. If not, I can request a guest pass for you. Depending on how many sessions you want to attend, there will be a variable meeting fee, and you also need to sign a "non-member contribution and license agreement" (you know, the IP stuff...).

If you're local to either event, I might even be able to get you into the Wednesday evening reception... No caviar or champagne, but an open bar and some nibbles, and an opportunity to chat with dedicated standards-oriented people.

For questions and those guest pass requests, please e-mail [email protected]. Thanks.
