Hello everyone,
For the next Financial Services working group meeting on March 24th, we would like the main topic be a discussion around "Lift and Shift" cloud migration, or rehosting. Lift and Shift is the process of migrating an application or workload and it's associated data, with minimal or no modification, to another private or public cloud platform. Some of the benefits are a faster migration compared with other strategies, more cost effective, and is less resource intensive. But there are also challenges and reasons it's not for every situation that should be considered.
As part of the meeting discussion, we would like a few members who are interested to provide their experiences and/or a case study of a Lift and Shift cloud migration. Co-Chair Sean Gray has offered to share his personal experience and direct involvement in PayPal's migration, and it would be great to have a few examples from other organizations of various sizes and structures to be shared within the Financial Services group.
It would be nice to hear what worked and what didn't, how the cloud service providers guidance was followed, and deployment and restructuring, and inventory dependency. If anyone would like to share their experience through a brief presentation they can reply in this discussion, or directly at [email protected].
