    Notes from Kick off Meeting

    • Overview of the paper: High performance computing security isn't a hindrance, but it can improve the quality of the research
      • Newer issue because they're being pulled out of their walled gardens and more accessible by the outside
      • Help people have a conversation about the benefits of security when challenged
        • i.e., The quality, reproducibility, etc. of research
        • Many scientists believe that security will prevent their models from working
      • Provide talking points that may occur when introducing this idea
    • Thoughts
      • Focus on what is unique to HPC
      • Target audience - unique HPC controls for security professionals vs scientists
      • Identify an architecture so we can point out where the controls are located
        • Pre-runtime may need to be added
    • Next steps
      • Before the Next Call - Read/review NIST documents. This will help brainstorm ideas and know what the latest in the space is
      • Next call - Oct 17 at 9am PT - Team will work on building out the outline for the paper
