When going through Module 2, Unit 2 of the self-paced foundation course, I ran into a review question I would like some clarity on. When answering this true / false question I was under the impression that cloud infrastructure does include virtualization components, like hypervisors. But when answer the question, the correct answer is false.

You're right, it does. The text in your screenshot says " does not ". Therefore " false " should be selected.

Agree, False is the answer. That is a bad question as it depends on language skills more than subject mater expertise.  (And may drive ESL folks crazy.)

MY bad, this was typo. I meant "WITHOUT".  "Cloud without virtualization does not exist" -   Looks like it caused confusion here :(

I always do the logic first. 
What is the answer to 'cloud infrastructure security includes the virtualization components'.
Answer to that is yes. Even if you don't have virtualization in there (which was Kaela's confusion).

So the answer to the original question is 'false'.

Security guidance - Page 91 : " Virtualization isn't merely a tool for creating virtual machines-it's the core technology for enabling cloud computing. We use virtualization all throughout computing, from full operating virtual machines to virtual execution environments."

Security guidance - Page 92 :   "As mentioned in the introduction, cloud computing is fundamentally based on virtualization: It's how we abstract resources to create pools. Without virtualization, there is no cloud."

 

Therefore, Cloud infrastructure security includes virtualization components.

Excellent reference! And as I said previously, this question is bad because it depends on grammar not understanding technical content.  I write exam questions for other ANSI certified exams, with an international audience, and that is a serious no-no.

A better question could be
Which of the following are core components of cloud infrastructure?
A) virtualization
B) serialzation
C) tokenization

The original question (in the screenshot) is a good question. It tests both your knowledge and your focus. You may need to read the question more than once to make sure you're not missing or overlooking anything in the text. Obviously if you have a strong knowledge and understanding of the topic, you won't get confused by that type of question. And as rightly said in previous replies, you can always use logic and check the guidance document, if in doubt.
