The talk on "Implementing Singapore's Model AI Governance Framework in Practice" will be presented by Jason Tamara WIDJAJA (Director, Artificial Intelligence & Responsible AI Lead, Singapore IT Hub, MSD) & Pui Yan CHAN (AI Ethicist & Data Scientist Foundational Data & Analytics Singapore IT Hub, MSD). AI is becoming a ubiquitous feature in our lives, & the technology is evolving at a rapid rate – 2022 sees over 150 AI publications released every day. In parallel, research in deploying ethical & trustworthy AI has increased fivefold between 2014 & the present, with downstream legislation & regulation starting to emerge in many countries. In this context, it is crucial for technology & security professionals to understand the unintended harm that can arise from treating AI solutions like regular technology implementations, & be familiar with principles that ensure AI is used in a beneficial & human-centric way. This talk presents an overview of Singapore's response to AI ethics & governance, with an emphasis on the Model AI Governance framework. Grounded in real-life examples of AI causing harm, the session takes the lens of translating the framework to practice to show how it mitigates AI-specific risks. Jason & Puiyan are co-authors of Singapore's AI Ethics & Governance Body of Knowledge & contributed to the Model AI Governance framework. Jason leads a global AI lead team in MSD whose scope includes responsible AI, while Puiyan is a full-time AI Ethicist.
